The story is a fictionalised account of the life of Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johansson) who was mistress to King Henry VIII (Eric Bana) before he married her sister, Anne (Natalie Portman). Set during one of the most dramatic periods in British regal history, the narrative focuses on the relationship and rivalry between the two Boleyn girls and the power game being played by their family in which the sisters are mere pawns. When Mary is ousted in favour of Anne, she leaves the King's Court to marry a commoner, but is compelled to return when her sister embarks on a reckless plan to try and save herself from ruin.

Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson star as Anne and Mary Boleyn in this adaptation of the bestselling novel by Philippa Gregory. While their story is perhaps one of history`s most well known, The Other Boleyn Girl has fun with the facts, creating a lusty, dramatic tale of deception and betrayal. The film begins with the girls` power-hungry uncle (David Morrissey), discovering that King Henry VIII`s (Eric Bana) marriage to Catherine of Aragon (Ana Torrent) is falling apart. Their uncle suggests to their father (Mark Rylance) that he tempt the King into taking Anne (Portman) as his mistress, thus putting the family in the King`s favour. But the King has no time for the strong-willed Anne, and instead turns his attentions to her already married, soft-spoken sister Mary. With her eye on the Queen`s crown, Anne renews her attempts to seduce the king, driving a wedge between her and her sister.
Bana is a brooding, sexy Henry, and Portman and Johansson both give strong performances as the beautiful and bewitching sisters. While some might quibble over the historical inaccuracies of the film, most will let themselves get lost in the sea of beautiful bodices, and the anticipation of when those bodices might be ripped.

Also ich fand den film wirklich super! Er war eigentlich immer spannend, die schauspieler war klasse... Ich weiss eigentlich nicht, wieso der film so schlechte kritiken bekommen hat. denn hier fanden in die meisten toll. ich fand zwar, das der film nicht so ins detail der geschichte ging, aber er war toll!

Sehr gute Umsetzung der tragischen Geschichte von Anne Boleyn. Sinnliche Darstellung von Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson und Eric Bana. Ein wahres Meisterwerk zwischen Romantik und Intriegen.

Ich habe den Film zwar nicht gesehen, doch kann ich die unten stehende Bemerkung nicht auf mir sitzen lassen: Eric Bana hat schon einige gute Rollen übernommen: 1. The Hulk (meiner Meinung nach absolut passend, genial!) 2. Black Hawk Down 3. Troy 4. Munich...!!!
Auf "die Schwestern" bin ich mal gespannt...

.. que demander de mieux qu'une Portmann brillantisime et une Johanson sublissime, le tout avec Bana, sexy et credible à 100%.. casting de rêve. Belles lumières, beaux décors, bons jeux d'acteurs, à consommer sans modération

Auch ich war positiv überrascht von diesem Film! Fand ihn genial mit all diesen Intrigen, Hintergehungen usw. Zeigt auf wie krass man nach dem Aufstieg schon wieder fallen kann...und auch welche Macht die Frauen über uns Männer haben können ;-)

Ein Film der von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute nie langweilig wird. Absolut empfehlenswert. Grossartig gespielt, besonders Natalie Portman in der Rolle der Anne Boleyn. Eines der besten Kino-Filme in letzter Zeit.
