Hollywood legend James Dean stars in this adaptation of John Steinbeck'sclassic novel East of Eden. Teenaged Cal Trask (Dean-Rebel Without aCause, Giant) longs for the affection that his father reserves for his brother Aron, but his efforts meet only rejection. Also attracted toAron's girlfriend, Cal becomes so frustrated in his search for love and acceptance that he reveals a long-held secret about their mother to Aron, knowledge that now tears the family apart.

Based on John Steinbeck`s novel and directed by Elia Kazan, East of Eden is the first of three major films that make up James Dean`s movie legacy. The 24-year-old idol-to-be plays Cal, a wayward Salinas Valley youth who vies for the affection of his hardened father (Raymond Massey) with his favored brother Aron (Richard Davalos). Playing off the haunting sensitivity of Julie Harris, Dean`s performance earned one of the film`s four Academy Award nominations. Among the movie`s stellar performances, Jo Van Fleet won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress.

James Dean, der Mann war ein spezielles Talent, man soll versuchen zu glauben, dass dies sein erster Film war.

Spielt sehr überzeugend, man konnte richtig mitfühlen. Schliesse mich meinem Vorredner an wegen der Streitszene(mit dem Vater um Geld).

james dean in seinem ersten film - und bereits ein star. der junge schauspieler hat viele szenen und dialoge improvisiert (streit mit vater wegen geld) und dies macht den film zu einem klassiker! unbedingt ansehen!
