Filmed in 1983, the pianist Ivo Pogorelich is the subject of this long out of print profile filmed in his home, at rehearsal and in interviews that provide insight to this unconventional pianist whose behavior scandalized Warsaw's Chopin competition in 1980 when he was disqualified for inappropriate dress and interpretations, but awarded a 'special prize' afterwards. The resulting hubbub resulted in Pogorelich being elevated to status of misunderstood outsider both in some of the public's eye and more critically in his eyes. Filmed when his star was ascending and erupting with that particular bravado only possible when young, a fascinating look at a moment in time for the undeniably virtuosic Pogorelich whose presence in the public eye seems more akin to that of a massive shooting star: hot, bright and fast.
