Martha Price, una vedova irlandese, si reca in Texas con la figlia decisa ad accoppiare uno strano toro della razza Hereford a una vacca americana, convinta di poter produrre una razza di bovini più resistente. Nelle peripezie verso la realizzazione del suo progetto, la donna è aiutata dal rude cowboy Sam Burnett. In un'atmosfera agreste sbocciano gli amori: quello del simpatico protagonista per la bella vedova Price e quello della figlia di lei per un giovane.
