Description

Searching For Sugar Man tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest `70s rock icon who never was. After being discovered in a Detroit bar, Rodriguez`s sound struck 2 renowned producers and they signed a recording deal. But when the album bombed, the singer disappeared into obscurity. A bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa and over the next two decades, he became a phenomenon. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero.

Sixto Rodriguez... Noch nie gehört? Dabei war der mexikanisch-stämmige Singer-Songwriter einst gefeiert wie Bob Dylan und Elvis Presley zusammen - allerdings ausschliesslich in Südafrika. Hier wurde in den 70ern sein Album "Cold Fact" zum Soundtrack der Antiapartheidbewegung. In Rodriguez’ Heimat hingegen, den USA, wusste niemand von seinem Ruhm, auch nicht er selbst. Zwei südafrikanische Fans begeben sich eines Tages auf die Suche nach ihrem Idol, um das sich viele Gerüchte ranken, vor allem um dessen vermeintlichen Selbstmord. Was sie am Ende entdecken ist weit mehr, als sie sich erhofft hatten...

Documentaire au déroulement surprenant qui nous emporte bien au-delà de ce qu'on attend. Film qui porte une foule d'impressions et de messages sur la vie, l'espoir, la sincérité, la simplicité. Somptueux, une bouffée de vie.
