Description

This hilarious comedy takes place in an alternative reality in which lying does not exist. Everyone, even politicians and advertisers, speaks the truth ( and nothing but the truth). But when a loser named Mark (Gervais) discovers lying, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark succeeds in lying his way to fame and fortune. But things soon get out of control, as people start to treat his lies as gospel. He has the entire world hanging on his every word- but can he win the heart of the woman he loves…?

Ricky Gervais directs himself in THE INVENTION OF LYING, a comedy in which everyone in the world tells the truth except for one misfit in the film industry, who after discovering the act of lying, milks it to become the world's most phenomenal performer. Matthew Robinson co-directs from his own script that he and Gervais collaborated on. Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe, Jonah Hill, and Louis C.K. co-star in the Media Rights Capital production, with John Hodgman, Tina Fey, Christopher Guest, and Jeffrey Tambor rounding out the rest of the cast.

Die Idee ist gut, aber je länger der Film dauert, desto anstrengender wird er. Das Ende ist 0815-Hollywood und voraussehbar. Wirklich witzig sind zwei Specials auf der englischen Version.

Diese Produktion zeigt, ähnlich einer Analogie, wie sich eine (ich nenne sie einmal ..) Sage vor einigen tausend Jahren ähnlich abgespielt haben könnte (Judaismus). Dabei werden alle deren später nachfolgenden Derivate (alle weiteren Monotheismen) eingeschlossen. Um sich eine zentrale Stellung in einer sozialen Gruppe/ Gesellschaft zu "ergaunern", wird irgendetwas neuartiges behauptet (= gelogen). Diese Behauptung muss eine positive Hoffnung/ Botschaft beinhalten und von einer hierarchisch höheren und unsichtbaren Macht stammen. Es dauert nicht lange und bald folgen dem Dogma dieses Propheten eine Menge Verzweifelter. Fazit: Dieser Film ist kein Schenkelklopfer mit Kalauern. Die Geschichte hat einen universellen, ernsten Hintergrund, der hier satirisch dargestellt wird. Insofern ist die Geschichte sehr gut. Die Inszenierung allerdings fand ich etwas enttäuschend.
