What starts out as a gangster film spirals rapidly out of control when a young yakuza is ordered to assassinate his own superior, who also happens to be his closest friend. When his target disappears before he can do the job, he sets out for a search that leads him into a mysterious town filled with lowlifes, oddballs, and a cow-headed demon.

The plot of any Miike Takashi film is impossible to predict. Whether it be the deeply unsettling Audition, the manic Dead or Alive or the genre-busting Happiness of the Katakuris, there is always something that defies expectation. Gozu is no exception.

Senior Yakuza, Ozaki, appears to be going mad. What began as minor eccentricities have become major problems endangering not only himself but also members of his brotherhood. There is only one option left to the boss - to dispose of him. He orders Minami to take Ozaki to the Yakuza disposal dump in Nagoya and to report to him once the job is done. On the way to Nagoya, Ozaki is killed accidentally. After Minami reports the news to his boss, he returns to the car to find that the body has gone.

From here, we enter a surreal world of bizarre characters and unnatural goings-on, where the only people stranger than the lactating inn owner and the autistic spiritual medium are the mysterious cow-headed demon and the Yakuza who can't make love without a strategically placed ladle for added stimulation...

    ist der Hammer. Hat mir besser gefallen, als Meister Lynchs Filme. Der Film ist wieder mal sehr schräg, beinahe beängstigend ruhig und der Schluss wieder einmal ein Vorschlaghammer auf den Kopf des Rationalen!

    Gozu gehört für mich zu den besten Miike-filmen neben Audition und Ichi-The Killer. absolut sehenswert. Der film ist sehr ruhig. und erwartet keine gewaltorgie. der film ist einfach voll schräg, und dann der Schluss! wieder eindeutig Miikes Handschrift! Freue mich schon auf Izo, der soll ja wieder von der härteren Gangart sein..

    Die Sprache ist sicher nicht englisch, sondern JAPANISCH!!!

    Es gibt nur englische Untertitel, aber keine Tonspur.

    Die DVD lohnt sich!

    Das Bild ist super, Extras gibt es sehr viele (AK, Interviews, Gallerien, Making of, Trailer etc.) und die DVD ist der "Unrated DC"! Es gibt eben auch noch eine geschnittene R- rated DVD Version, welche cede zum Glück nicht hat.
    PS: Starkes Cover!!!

    na bravo, ist doch eine tolle Art zum wohlüberlegten körperlichen (Un)-Glück zu finden, aber "jeder, wie er's braucht"!
    Ein paar Bierchen runterstürzen, um danach lynch-mässig die Freundin zu traumatisieren.
    Da wärst Du als Proll, wohl besser im Fussballstadion aufgehoben, denn als cinephiler oder intellektueller "Borderliner" ;-))

    sind ihr alle blamblam?! das ist mit abstand das dümmste und langweiligste was ich je gesehen habe!!! was soll das?! und die grösste frechheit ist es, disen miike mit david lynch zu vergleichen! halo?! was hat dieser bescheuerte film mit den lynchen meisterwerken zu tun?! bääääää, reg mich richtig auf! so was dummes! 130 min. zeitverschwendung! hätte ich lieber ein par bierchen gekippt und dann meine freundin geknallt... habaschen

    Für mich mit Abstand der beste Miike! Wer Filme von Lynch mag muss Gozu unbedingt reinziehen.

    Miikes auf Lynchs Spuren.. und er überholt ihn!
    Der Film ist beklemmend ruhig und wird immer struber, am Ende gibts dann auch noch eins mit dem Vorschlaghammer auf den Kopf des Rationalen Filmguckers..

    Einfach der Hammer!! Dieser Miike muss ein ganz schräger Typ sein....Die ersten 90 minuten "scheinen" langweilig, aber mit so einem Finish..!!!!!!

    Awardgewinner des fantasy film festival 2003!!! Vom selben Drehbuchautor wie Ichi the Killer, mit dem typisch beissenden Humor, jedoch ohne den Gorefaktor von Ichi. Trotzdem empfehlenswert!!

    tja, miikes ergüsse langweilen mich zunehmend...und nochmals tja, wirklich schlecht ist gozu nicht. irgendwie seltsam diese miike filme. aber hey, ich mag graveyard of honor, blues harp, bird people of china, dead or alive (NO.1), so what?

    habe in uncut gesehen und kann mir nicht vorstellen das dies hier die originalfassung ist der film ist ein weiteres meisterwerk nach fudoh, audition schon jetzt ein klassiker
