Débutant volontairement après le trop connu sacrifice d'Alamo, cette série fait enfin connaître les épisodes moins célèbres de la fondation du Texas, pour nous, du massacre de Goliad et de la bataille décisive de San Jacinto, à travers les historiques figures de Sam Houston (le regretté Bill Paxton était son descendant direct), Santa Anna et Deaf Smith (très attachant Jeffrey Dean Morgan), mais aussi de la légendaire 'Yellow Rose of Texas', Emily West.
Passionnant de bout en bout - et même encore meilleur dans la seconde moitié ! - de même que très révélateur de la mentalité particulière du Texas d'aujourd'hui.
