Set in early 20th Century Spain, a dancer becomes the romantic bone of contention between a humble shepherd and a ruthless marquis who is starving his people of water and diverting if for his own use. The dancer is played by none other than Riefenstahl herself.

The filming of Tiefland took placed between 1940 and 1944. In 1945 the footage was confiscated and not released until the 1950s, only then could editing be completed.

Tiefland was Leni Riefenstal`s last feature film.
