Tom Austin è un brillante scienziato, felicemente sposato con la bella Miranda. La scomparsa del cagnolino di famiglia getta suo figlio Tyler in uno stato di apatia e tristezza. Tom decide quindi di inventare ROBO-Dog, un cane robot per fargli compagnia. Robo-Dog e Tyler diventano amici inseparabili ma, ben presto si troveranno a dover fare i conti con il sig. Willis, avido proprietario della Epic Industries ed ex capo di Tom che vuole mettere le mani sulla super batteria che alimenta il cucciolo robot.
