John Lake is an American volunteer doctor working in southern Laos when one evening on his way home from a local bar, John intervenes in the sexual assault of a young woman and the violence quickly escalates. When a body is pulled out of the water the next day, all of the evidence points to John, who quickly recognises the nightmare which awaits if he s captured by the local authorities, and realises that his only hope is to reach the US Embassy.
