Maggie is a film student who has dutifully recorded her nightmares. She sees the same image - a hairy hippie with a dagger, a trussed maiden on an alter, and a terrified child fleeing through flames. She and her fellow film students prepare for a fundraising "horrorthon" at an abandoned theater called Dreamland, and the others begin fading to black...one by one. Maggie comes to the realization that the killer is Lanyard Gates, the crazed filmmaker responsible for The Possessor, a 60's cult film that reminds her of the image she sees in her dreams. Gates killed his family on stage at the same theater 15 years earlier. And he's back to finish off his daughter Sara, who is believed to be Maggie.
