Die junge schöne Euridice, die sich von einem Unbekannten verfolgt wähnt, kommt aus ihrem Heimatdorf zum ersten Mal in die Großstadt Rio de Janeiro. Dort begegnet sie dem Strassenbahnschaffner Orfeu. Beide verlieben sich leidenschaftlich ineinander. Während des Karnevals taucht der als Tod verkleidete Unbekannte wieder auf. Orfeu führt ungewollt den Tod seiner Geliebten herbei, die der Tod entführt. Nach einer qualvollen Suche findet er Euridice.

Einer der schönsten und traurigsten Film gleichzeitig. Muss man gesehen haben. Ein Film, der von den Bildern und der Musik lebt... und der schönen Hauptdarstellerin!!!!

Einer der schönsten und imposantesten Filmen überhaupt. Ein Film, den man nicht bloss nur einmal sieht und den man auch nicht mehr so schnell wieder vergisst!! Ein Muss für jede Sammlung.
