It`s 1914. Rudyard Kipling (David Haig from Four Weddings And A Funeral), the British Empire`s greatest supporter, is at the peak of his literary fame. Kipling`s son, Jack (Daniel Radcliffe from the Harry Potter films), is determined to play his part in the imminent war with Germany, but finds himself rejected due to his extremely poor eyesight. When his father uses his influence to land Jack a commission in the Irish Guards, Kipling’s wife, Caroline (Kim Cattrall from Sex And The City), is bitterly upset, failing to see the glory in losing her only son to the war.
As Jack leaves for war, Kipling consoles himself with the thought that if his son should die, it will have been his finest hour. But how would the great writer justify the consequences of his actions to himself and his wife? And how would he live with the conflict between his two greatest passions: a love for his family and a devotion to King and Country?

1915. Der Erste Weltkrieg hat gerade begonnen. Der grosse britische Schriftsteller Rudyard Kipling will unbedingt, dass sein Sohn John seinen Teil dazu beiträgt, im Kampf gegen die Deutschen, im Kampf um die Werte, die er selbst so öffentlich unterstützt. Doch John wird aufgrund eines Augenfehlers nicht zur Armee gelassen. Kipling lässt seinen ganzen Einfluss spielen, sodass sein Sohn doch in die Armee aufgenommen wird. Schnell schafft es der Junge, einen höheren Posten zu bekleiden und wird mit einer Ersatzbrille und der Erlaubnis seines Vater, dass er, obwohl noch nicht Volljährig, an die Front darf, nach Frankreich geschickt. Drei Wochen später, kurz nach Johns 18. Geburtstag, bekommt die Familie eine schreckliche Nachricht...

    trotz eigentlich noch professionell dargestelltem cover muss ich gestehen, dass ich wahrscheinlich noch nie einen solch schlechten Film wie "my boy jack" gesehen habe. abgesehen dass radcliffe absolut nicht in die rolle eines tapferen kriegers passt, spielt er sie auch noch wie ein anfänger. z.b. hätten sie das rauchen aus der rolle streichen können, denn er weiss ja nicht mal wie man eine zigarette hält, geschweige dann raucht. wie auch immer ist der ganze film absolut nicht spannend, in die länge gezogen und schauspielerisch eklatant schlecht. Der ganze Film könnte man locker auf 10min kürzen.
