A Sheffield, maggior centro siderurgico britannico, sono finiti i bei tempi degli anni '60. Acciaierie e fabbriche hanno chiuso i battenti, il lavoro si è automatizzato e molti operai sono stati licenziati. Tra questi c'è Gaz, separato dalla moglie alla quale è stato affidato anche il figlio adolescente che però, nonostante tutto, è disposto a dare ancora fiducia al padre. Intorno a Gaz si muove un gruppo di amici, tutti disoccupati ed in cerca di una soluzione. C'è anche Gerald, che era un dirigente, e che ancora non ha trovato il coraggio di dare la notizia alla moglie. Alla ricerca di un occasione, Gaz lancia l'idea di allestire un numero di striptease per raggranellare qualche soldo. In un capannone Gaz fa alcune selezioni per formare un gruppo. Sono in sei alla fine a gettarsi nell'avventura, che però sembra finire ben presto, quando i poliziotti intervengono ad interrompere le prove e arrestano tutti. I sei amici pensano di abbandonare tutto, ma il proprietario del locale dove è prenotato lo spettacolo dice che sono stati venduti molti biglietti, e allora Gaz torna alla carica. Convince di nuovo i più incerti (tra cui Dave, che aveva trovato lavoro in un grande magazzino) e il gruppo si prepara. Finalmente si va in scena, e gli improvvisati artisti eseguono il loro numero di striptease, fino in fondo, senza veli.
