Ce film retrace les expériences du Docteur Varella au sein du terrible pénitentier de Candariu à Sao Paolo, Brésil, alors qu'il travaillait sur la prévention du Sida. Il découvrit les conditions dégradantes dans lesquelles vivaient des centaines de détenus. La situation atteint son paroxysme lorsque, pour calmer une rebellion, les forces de l'ordre tuèrent 111 hommes.

    Wirklich krasse Zustände in diesem brasilianischen Knast. Zeig das Leben der Sträflinge aus einem anderen Blickwinkel (nicht so wie in den meisten Hollywood Knast-Filmen).
